PE is not only a focus in school time at St Joseph's. The children have lots of opportunities to participate in extra- curricular PE sessions through after school clubs and lunch time clubs.
Here are some examples of clubs that are on at different points in the year:
-fitness and agility
As well as offering children sports clubs, in the spring term we also offer the children the opportunity to come to our Activate club. Activate is a programme designed to teach children about being healthy, being active and also having fun. The sessions start by children looking at different health aspects, for example fats and sugars and the eat well plate. They complete some activities and then also play some fun, exciting sports games at the end of the session. Mrs B is trained to lead these sessions and the children really enjoy them. Activate has a positive effect on children's health and understanding on how to be and keep healthy.
In 2016 Sonia Dryden (School Games Organiser) used us as a case study to look at the impact that activated had. She came into school to talk to our PE Leader and observe the session, as well as talking to the children to find out how they felt activate had helped them. Below I have attached the Copeland Community Fund Review, 2015-2016. Have a look at page 15 where we feature.
