Computing at St Joseph’s
At St Joseph’s, we see Computing as an integral part of teaching and learning and see it playing a significant role in the education of all children in our school. Computing underpins today’s modern lifestyle. It is essential that all pupils gain the confidence and ability that they need in this subject, to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world. The safe use of Computing will also enhance and extend children’s learning across the whole curriculum whilst contributing to motivation and the development of social skills. We aim to provide appropriate, fully integrated and supported Computing resources in order that the highest level of education can be offered to all pupils. When possible, we aim to utilise the most up to date Computing resources and recognise the need to remain aware of the potential uses of any emerging technologies. In addition, we hope to utilise existing resources both within the school and the wider community. It is of great importance to us that we equip the children with the skills that they need to stay safe in the ever changing online world.
Monitoring: Every term we assess how well the children have performed in their computing skills (emerging, expected & greater depth) this show us how well the children are performing. The Computing Leader then collates this information and uses that, as well as information from monitoring teachers’ plans, lessons and children’s work to ensure our provision and pupil outcomes are the very best they can be. Any next steps to move the subject and the children’s learning forward are fed into the Computing Leader’s action plan, which is part of the whole school development plan.
