Applying for a School Place

Starting school – September 2025

If you live in Cumbria and your child was born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021, they will be due to start school in the Reception year group in September 2025. You must apply to Cumbria County Council for a school place, under the Local Authority’s Coordinated Admissions Scheme.

The closing date for applications is 15th January 2025. It is essential that you make your application before the closing date. If you do not, this could severely reduce the chances of you securing a place at one of your preference schools.

Alternatively you can apply on paper application form which can be printed from the Cumbria County Council Website, or you can pop into the school office for an application pack.

 

Transfer to secondary school – September 2025

If you live in Cumbria and your child is in Y6 they will be due to transfer to secondary school in September 2025. You must apply to Cumbria County Council for a secondary school place, under the Local Authority’s Coordinated Admissions Scheme.

The closing date for applications is 31st October 2024. It is essential that you make your application before the closing date. If you do not, this could severely reduce the chances of you securing a place at one of your preference schools.

If your child is in Year 6 at a primary or junior school in Cumbria you should have received a letter and a leaflet, via the school, which gives you some basic information about how to apply.
