For the first week of term, the whole school read 'Croc and Bird' by Alexis Deacon and created lots of fabulous work around the theme of the book.
Class One learned the story, about a crocodile and a parrot who hatch together and grow up as brothers. We explored the themes of family, loyalty and the features of each animal. The children acted out the story to make our own picture book. Please take a look below.
We got to watch the author and illustrator, Alexis Deacon, reading the story aloud. He also showed us step-by-step tips to recreate his illustration of Croc. We followed the instructions and here are some of our best efforts!
Each class took on the task of representing a key part of the story using different media. This was led by Miss Dowell and our class used pastels and pencils to create the scene where Croc and Bird separate to be with their own kind. Here is the original Alexis Deacon illustration alongside our art piece.
