I am very proud to announce that our school have achieved GOLD School Games Mark for our commitment to PE and school sports this year. Being a small primary school, this is a huge achievement. Well done to all of our children, play leaders, umpires and referees who have all contributed to the mark.
Many thanks also to the coaches we have had in school and also parents for helping out at sporting events and leading after school clubs.
Let's go St Jo's, Let's GO!
PE and School Sport- What is coming up for Year 3/4?
Year 3/4 have been to several sports competitions throughout the school year. Here is a list of the competitions we have coming up in the Summer term.
-Rounders
-Rugby
-Football
We also have lots of opportunities within school for children to develop their skills, confidence and team work in PE. Have a look below for a list of the competitions we are hosting in school throughout the Summer term.
-Olympics and Paralympics
-Sports Day
Please remember that you also have the opportunity to be involved in sport and games at lunch time with our play leaders. Children who are interested out of year 4 will be trained to become play leaders when the Year 6s leave in the Summer term.
During the last week of Summer 1 Half term we ran our own football competition. The competition was open to children from year 2-6. We had several children sign up- girls and boys alike. Well done to the five team captains who worked hard at training their team and preparing them for the games. Another massive well done to the year 5s and 6s who refereed and helped out during the games. The children have decided that they would like to run another competition, we hope to do this during the second half of the summer term :)
After having rugby training for the past term, we went down to Whitehaven Rugby league to take part in their tournament. We had two teams who both tried extremely hard. We have some amazing rugby players who really stood out. We would like to say thank you to Callum, Curtis and Glen who trained us and prepared us for the competition. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
Well done Year 3/4! They tried extremely hard at the Tri Golf festival at the Whitehaven Academy. We came 5th overall. The children were a delight to take- keep it up!
Class 2 had fun in their PE lesson this week practising for their Tri Golf Competition.
We are very lucky in Year 3/4! During our PE lesson on a Friday we are coached by some players from Whitehaven Rugby League. We have lots of fun whilst learning skills, teamwork and developing our confidence. We have lots of budding rugby players so the children enjoy working with the Whitehaven players as they look up to them as role models for their future.
This week we went to Cleator Moor Astroturf to take part in a Quicksticks Hockey Tournament. The children played extremely well, having only had one training session! The children were a credit to the school and showed that they are good team players and work well together. We came 4th overall, well done St Jo's!
This week we went to Bransty School, Whitehaven to play football. We took teams from across the school including teams from Year 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6. All of the children played extremely well and had a brilliant time. Well done St Joseph's!!
We would like to say a huge well done to one of our Year 4 boys who took part in the Sands Centre Football tournament at the weekend. The team did brilliantly and came second out of 20 schools from across Cumbria and South West Scotland. Well done!
This half term we are working on our balancing and travelling skills in Gymnastics.
Mrs Jackson and Mrs Sisson took 2 teams from Year 3/4 to compete in a football competition at St Benedicts. Well done to all children who took part- they were a credit to St Joseph's! Our A team came 4th and B team came 3rd. Well done Year 3/4!
We went to the Copeland schools cross country final. The children all raced extremely well and we came third overall. Well done class 2! We were a very supportive team and cheered for all of our runners. The children were a credit to the school.
On Wednesday 30th October class 2 went to St Benedict's to take part in a cross country competition. All of the children tried very hard and put in 100% effort. When the winners were announced we realised that we had won the St Benedict's small schools cluster! Well done class 2! We will be going to the final in two weeks time where we will race again.
The Winning Team!
