Admissions
Applying for a School Place

Starting school – September 2026
If your child was born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, they can start in our Reception class in September 2027. We would love to meet you.
Come and see us first. The best way to choose a school is to visit. Call 01946 810702 or email admin@st-josephsrc.cumbria.sch.uk to book a tour at a time that suits you, including before or after work.
Families of every faith and none are welcome
St Joseph's is a Catholic school, and Catholic families have priority if we have more applicants than places. Children of all faiths and none can apply and are admitted in line with our admissions policy. You do not need to be Catholic to apply.
How to apply
- Apply to Cumberland Council by 15 January 2027, naming St Joseph's Catholic Primary School as one of your preferences. Apply online at cumberland.gov.uk/schools-and-education/apply-school-place-or-change-schools. Paper forms are available from the council or our school office.
- If you want your application considered on faith grounds, or have a sibling at the school, also complete our Supplementary Information Form (attached to the admissions policy below). Return it to the school office or email it to admin@st-josephsrc.cumbria.sch.uk by 15 January 2027.
- Cumberland Council will tell you which school your child has been offered on 16 April 2027.
Not sure how to fill in the forms? Pop into the office and Mrs Skelton will help.

Our admission arrangements
The governing body is the admission authority for St Joseph's. Our published admission number (PAN) for Reception in September 2027 is 12. Joining us during the school year
You can apply for a place in any year group at any time. In-year applications come directly to the school, not the council. Contact the office on 01946 810702 or admin@st-josephsrc.cumbria.sch.uk and we will arrange a visit, usually within the same week. We will confirm in writing whether a place is available.
Appeals
If your child is not offered a place, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel. Our appeals timetable for 2027 entry is below.

Religious education
RE is at the heart of our curriculum. Parents have a legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE. Please speak to the headteacher (Miss Savage) if you would like to discuss this.
